"Abraham, Abraham...lay not thine hand upon the lad. Neither do thou any thing unto him for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from me" (Gen. 22:11,12).
It was not that God did not know what Abraham would do, but here is the proof. This was a test, such as a test of gold by fire. Job also had a testing and he came through without faltering. In his case it was a controversy between God and Satan. We do not know whether Abraham had been accused by the adversary, but it is very likely that he was.
